A New Year’s Tip to better health and wellness
As the 2009 year ends and the 2010 year begins I want to take a moment to THANK all of you who have helped make NaturalBody Personal Training a true success! Thanks to all my clients who so graciously gave me the opportunity to train each of you to better health and to accomplish the goals that you were trying to achieve! I hope each of you has experienced a new sense of wellness due to my help. I have enjoyed teaching and learning from each of you!

Jason Chilcot

Beautiful Irina

My dear Jerod taking it all!
Thank you Jerod, Jason, Irina, David, Natalie, Christine, Kym, Karen, Kristie, Darlene and Alan for allowing me to train you and to those who competed on stage thank you for allowing me to take you to winning in your competitions! You all did beautifully and were winners for sure!

Bringing back slimnastics

Bringing the best to Charlotte! Joel Bryant!

Teaching water exercise! So relaxing but tough!

Precious Stella and her Free Range Chickens!
Thanks to all who allowed me to teach you water exercise, kick boxing and slimnastics it was huge for all of us! To those who enjoyed my classes at EarthFare and my booth out at the Farmers Market on Adrey Kell…Thank you for trusting me to teach you about eating right and enjoying what our farmers have for us here in our community and learning about organic and natural nutrition! What a pure joy it was to be with down to earth folks like little Stella Smith from Van Wyke and her wonderful parents and her farm animals! We all loved her and her story that made the paper with all that she had to teach us! Thanks Stella! For the MANY that came out to hear my dear friend Joel Bryant motivate each of us to “DOING THE DREAM”….I thank you and Joel for making it a success as I was honored to have him here to promote wellness in so many ways!
Getting married was a highlight for me this year to my wonderful husband Jim. Becoming a new step mom of 3 wonderful boys has been extremely rewarding! The boys have also contributed to NaturalBody Personal Training’s success by always inviting their friends to all the events and the kids come and boy do they have a great time!

My 3 step sons always ready to have fun with NaturalBody Personal Training events and to relax afterward in the hot tub!

These runners who run 50 miles, 50K, 1/2 marathons in extreme area are so awesome!
Jim blessed me with many wonderful trips this year. From Lodtz, Poland where I was able to travel around with a local friend Anita who shared her recipes and garden and showed me a REAL farmers market to traveling to San Fransisco and working the NorthFace Endurance Challenge with athletes who really showed me what true dedication is to run 50 miles in the Golden Gate National Forest in the pitch black night, I have truly learned so much to bring back and enjoy writing my health and wellness column for our local Carolina Gateway newspaper to share my experiences.

My wonderful husband Jim Acuff

Team NaturalBody and Samaritans Feet! We tied some laces!

Team NaturalBody and Breast Cancer Awareness! We raised $2000!
The year was a real learning experience for me with teaching so many folks about health and wellness. From the Farmers Market, to EarthFare to Corporate Wellness in businesses around the Ballantyne community it has been a true blessing to me and those listening. Thanks to all who invited me in! I learned so much from each of you! I hope you learned something from me too!

TWTelecom- The girls were great and Christine is still kicking butt!

Teaching the girls about protein and carbohydrates
TIP for the new year!

February: The gift of health through Love

The gift of love
I love February! It is the month that holds my most favorite holiday of all, Valentines Day! I have always loved Valentines Day! From hearts and roses to the beautiful colors of pink, red, white and cream I love everything that goes along with the wonderful day of love, February 14.
I remember as a little girl hand-making my own Valentine cards with red and pink construction paper and pasting them on dainty white doilies. I would anxiously wait to put them in my classmates hand covered cigar boxes made to be a Valentine mailbox. I of course was always in hopes that the right boy would put a special one in mine. My how nothing has changed! I still look for that special card to come my way!
I love Valentines Day so much that I chose that as my special day to marry the love of my life Jim Acuff last year 2009! He has been a dream come true for me in sharing true love with and has always put the right card in my Valentine box since we met!
So what about true love? How does that affect a person and their health? I for one know that love has been a word and an experience that I continue to understand with age and situations. When my life seems to be most complete it has been when I have felt most comfortable with myself. Loving and accepting myself for who and why I am the way that I am has been a part of the understanding of love for me. I can not truly understand others until I understand and accept myself.
One thing I have come to understand is that unless I love myself unconditionally and love others unconditionally I will never be able to be free in my life. Freedom brings great peace and joy and in turn good health. Loving those around you with no hidden agendas or conditions is very valuable in finding true love. That is tough at times when conditions present things in a manner that we do not like or do not agree with.
I know how hard it is when I want to have things my way. It is not in God’s plan for us to have everything our way. God wants us to love one another. It is stated in John 13:34 when Christ said “a new command I give you: to love one another. As I have loved you, so must you love one another”. I don’t question it anymore. I just do it. Fighting inside my mind sets boundaries for myself and my life. Letting love work through loving everyone unconditionally makes life work for me and it is healthy!
Are you happy with yourself? Have you tried to control a situation in your life to have it your way or do you love ALL unconditionally enough to let things and life play themselves out and continue to love deep and unconditional? If not then start with you. Start with what is inside first. Ask for someone to forgive you and then start to love with no conditions attached. See how freedom will arrive on the scene and your love life will being to grow quickly and your health will too! Until next time let me go begin the Valentine decorating! Let the party begin! Happy LOVE month to all!

Candi’s Tip of the Day: Taking the road less traveled.

The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost
Motivation for a new road to travel
In 1980 I hand made my own graduating announcements from Ferrum College. On the front was the Ferrum College Seal and this quote from Robert Frost’s poem The Road Not Taken.
”Two roads diverged in wood and I- I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference”.
As life continues to unfold I continually find myself traveling a road that is less traveled. It is full of brush, leaves, darkness, bumps, pot holes, fairies, princes, light and mainly adventure. I never seem to find the road that is lighted brightly, worn by many travelers and picked of it’s flowers on the road side to be of interest to me. I love choosing the road that is unexplored. In making that choice I always find myself meeting the most interesting people and learning about who I am as a person.
Ordinary is not for me. As I traveled to work today on this 30th of October I found myself enjoying the lovely fall colors of the trees. On the road coming from my home one tree stood out on the tree lined street. It was bright red. Funny how all the other maples were yellow and green and this tree stood majestically out in it’s own beauty. I thought if I were to enjoy a picnic lunch it would be under that tree.
Today I chose to spend my lunch time in The Gallery Restaurant having a beautiful lunch by myself since it was raining out. I am making some business decisions that will take me down a new road. One that needs some quiet time to reflect. As I began to challenge myself to once again venture my planning into new unexplored territory I found fear wanting to creep in thinking “who will help me get to my desires?”. How will all of my new planning be placed to work together for a not so ordinary result of success? I finally decided to sit back and bask in the beauty of my ladies lunch. As I was enjoying the tomato bisque soup with cheese puff topper I heard laughter from the other side of the room. I continued to hear it as my china plate emptied and the thoughts of success with clients who have taken a road less traveled for themselves have graced my road less traveled adventure. The Irina’s, the Kristie’s and the Jason’s of my world. Their success has been my joy and has made me forget the pot holes and bumps along the way.
As I pondered my future and planned my client David’s 4:00 leg workout I ended my lunch with a small slice of red velvet cake that was the same cake my husband Jim and I had enjoyed on our wedding day just 8 months earlier made by our wonderful pastry chef here at the hotel. Again, more laughter.
My curiosity continued to get the best of me and I ventured around the corner to see who was making all of this laughter I was missing. To my surprise I found 4 lovely women completely decorated from head to toe with a table full of lights, decorations and delightful food and candy for Halloween! I had to go and find out what was going on and “who” were they! I found myself learning each of their names and finding out they had been doing this type of fun outing for the last 4 years for most holiday’s. Wow, I wanted in on this! So, I asked if I could join their next adventure! They stood out in the crowded restaurant even though I could not see them at first. Their laughter attracted me.
You see you must have your ears on when you are traveling down the road less traveled. You must stay aware and open for what is just around the corner! You may think the future looks grim but you will be surprised to find that awaiting you is the trophy you have longed for or the fun ladies adding joy and laughter to your life that you have needed for a long time.
Be not afraid. If you are exploring the thoughts of traveling down a new and different road go get on it and start pushing through the brush! I promise you will encounter monsters and darkness but God will send you the angles along the way to guide you to the ladies awaiting in Halloween costumes with great laughter to enjoy! I look forward to sharing my new NaturalBody Personal Training business as it develops on it’s new road less traveled for 2010 and hearing from you as you go down yours!
In good health through a NaturalBody, Candi Acuff
Please share in comments as you make your plans and share your desires! NaturalBody wants to hear from you!

Lib Jones, Jenny Lee, Harriett Jones and Karen Blazek enjoying life on a road less traveled! Thanks ladies for adding laughter to my journey today!
Dedication to fitness on the inside and out

Dedication to Fitness

My client Jerod Cymbalisty winning it all!
Over the past 25 years I have had the opportunity to train many men and women to better health. I have also been fortunate to train those that wanted to take it a step further for competition. Dedication to better health is something that is necessary whether you are competing or not.
For the last 3 weeks my father was in ICU at the University of Virginia. He almost died 4 times. What was surprising to me is that during that time I was able to observe many health care professionals attitudes and personal appearances. In 3 weeks I will tell you that my dad probably had 30+ nurses. I was amazed at what I noticed. Most of them were extremely over weight. Over weight being clearly 250+ pounds and they did not bring much “light” into the room when they came to check on him. I continued to think in my mind…..”If they are not taking care of themselves how can I trust they are taking care of my father?”

Big Jim Nichols, my dad, the most awesome man in the world
It is very hard to take care of aging parents when you are the primary care taker and live out of town. While I sat for many long hours as my dad endured 2 major surgeries which he coded during, I had to really take a long look at just what I needed to do when returning to Charlotte to impress upon those around me that fitness is the most important thing one can do for themselves. As my father and I were able to share while he began his recovery at home we talked about some very important things and they ended up being the basis for what I am writing now.
I write a health and wellness column for the local Indian Land newspaper The Carolina Gateway every month. I wrote an article and sent it in 3 weeks ago when my dad first had his surgery. It just so happens that the the article came out today and it was what dad and I ended up talking so much about when I was home three weeks later!
Dedication to fitness and positive mental motivation

Me taking care of me!
Dedication to be fit should be the number one priority in one’s life. If you are not healthy physically it ends up causing so many problems. Financial woes, time missed, health costs, family worries, planning issues and even death. Positive mental motivation is inside fitness. Doing the dream of your life is also part of that. Please read my article in today’s Indian Land Carolina Gateway. I think you will get my drift! I will post it when they update their web site!!!!

Irina my little figure competitor going for her first show!
I am enjoying staying dedicated to those that are dedicated to better health. For those folks like Irina who I am training now and she competes this weekend in her first show. See under my heading of Bodybuilding and Follow Irina for her latest photos and check back for her update on how she did!

Jason who I am helping now and is competing next weekend. Jerod, Shannon, Jeannie and many others that I have trained for competition, I applaud you for the dedication you have displayed of your appreciation to fitness on the inside and out. Thank you for allowing me to “Do My Dream”. No doubt being positive is my focus and teaching good health and wellness through bodybuilding, exercise, nutrition and motivation is my passion and dedication in this lifetime.
